Summary

The stunningly original, must-read fantasy of 2018 follows two fiercely independent young women, centuries apart, who hold the power to save their world...or doom it.

When assassins ambush her best friend, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing herself as one of a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light, and a queen of blood. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven elemental magic trials. If she fails, she will be executed...unless the trials kill her first.

One thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a fairy tale to Eliana Ferracora. A bounty hunter for the Undying Empire, Eliana believes herself untouchable--until her mother vanishes. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain and discovers that the evil at the empire's heart is more terrible than she ever imagined.

As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world--and of each other.

Review

I held off on reading this book for so long and I have no idea why, I loved every part of this book. This book was intriguing the moment you started reading the first line. It starts off so fast paced and with some stressful action. We meet the blood queen in the beginning and we're left wanting to know exactly how she got to that point and how did she lie to  everyone. We also meet Eliana who lives 1000 years after the events of Rielle. We follow her story and how she coincides with the events that have already happened.

I can't begin to explain how much I loved the characters and the story in this book. The writing was amazing, fast paced and easy to follow and not easy to get lost or bored. Which is what I'm really grateful for,e a lot of books I've read lately have just not been doing it for me. I loved the plot even though you knew exactly what was going to happen. Every major point in the book had my heart racing.  I could not put it down at all.

If you love fantasy, if you like war and tournament type of books you'd love this one. I definitely recommend it and I can't wait to pick up Kingsbane.
